I am responsible for implementing, supporting and maintaining all aspects of IT and IS throughout the company.
I developed and maintain the company’s IT policies and advise the company Directors on strategic and operational planning for IT/IS and associated services.
- Manage the company’s server at its head office and at regional office in Wales. Responsible for all aspect of the network services. The servers run on Windows 2003 SBS with 50+ PC’s and laptops running Windows XP or Vista operating systems. Manage remote/home workers and mobile operatives.
- Manage all security issues relating to IT including user management, file access, backups and disaster recovery. Keep updated with current business law and relevant aspects such as data protection and employee rights.
- Provide front line support to users and manage deployment of technical support when and where required.
- Determine requirements for PCs, laptops, printers and all other IT equipment. Purchase equipment and maintain an asset database and software version & licence control.
- Responsible for creating the company’s Intranet, using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 with HTML, C#, Asp. net. I maintain and develop the intranet to ensure it provides reliable services and reflects the changing requirement of a vibrant and technologically advanced company.
- Provide technical specifications including Functional Design Specifications and user O & M Manuals for software projects.
- Design and develop bespoke software both internally and for customers that provide user interfaces for database management systems. Initially developing in Microsoft Office environment with Access, Excel and Word using VBA as well as developing applications in MS Visual Basic 6. I have moved on to more complex development using MS SQL and the .Net platform.
- Maintain database systems for our Personnel, Fleet Management and Accounts departments. I also install and maintain Sage account applications using Sage Line 50 and Sage Job Costing. At present I am involved in the migration to Sage Construct.
- Maintain our Engineering department’s Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) database and software as well as its Amtech Electrical Testing software suite.
- Manage general communications including company e-mail and telephony systems.
- Carry out Display Screen Equipment & Risk Assessments for all staff.
- Good team player but also comfortable working on own initiative taking a leading role as required.
- Excellent communicator with high degree of literacy. English as first language and able to speak some conversational French and Italian.
- Good presentation skills and confident in expressing myself before large or small groups. Can work with customer representatives at any level.
- Experienced at planning, organising and applying management skills to self and team members.
- Used to working to tight deadlines under pressure.
- Familiar with current legislation such as Computer Misuse Act and Data Protection.
- Used to working to Quality Assurance standards to ISO 2001. Involved in implementing quality control of documentation and specification of procedures and practices.
- Able to explain technical issues to technical and non technical persons alike. Good teaching skills and ability to give instructions and listen with patience and good humour.

I have carried out extensive work on control & automation systems using PLC programming software for Allan-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Siemens and SquareD programmable logic controllers. This has involved the design, programming, build, installation and maintenance of such systems.
I have designed, programmed and configured software and hardware for telemetry, SCADA and HCI systems using Serck, Allan-Bradley, Datacall and Westinghouse systems.
I work in close collaboration with the Directors of the company and most particularly the Managing Director for whom I am directly responsible to. I provide input to company strategic reviews and advise on all IS related issues. My responsibilities include writing and maintaining the company’s IT/IS procedures and Disaster Recovery policy. I manage all aspects of IT security, data backup, upgrades and patches.
I implement my own schedule of work for day to day tasks mainly involving general network, communications and support functions for all fixed and remote staff. I am responsible for overseeing and delegating IT/IS work at our branch offices and for ensuring that company policies and procedures are followed.
I am involved in ongoing projects for IT and IS for which I am the designated project manager. Each project is then headed by a Director with whom I maintain regular progress reports and updates. At present I am managing our company’s Information Management Systems project which aims to unify all areas of data storage and access and provide a central depository for company wide information/knowledge.
I work closely with our Systems Group which is responsible for developing software solutions within the company. I provide advice on any technical issues and provide requirements for IS related projects. Where I have overall responsibility for a project I designate personnel to work on the project and manage their workload throughout the project lifecycle. Although most of my work is internal to this company I do on occasion provide technical information and support to new and existing customers. On these occasions I am called to discuss maters with various levels of the customer’s team up to and including Director level.
I am responsible for keeping up to date with the latest technical advances within the industry. I manage my own development and ensure that I maintain and improve my level of skills and general associated knowledge. I identify any particular area of interest that may benefit the company and produce reports with costs and recommendations to the board of directors.
